La Familia’s Opportunity Center –
Community Resilience Hub
The La Familia Counseling Center (LFCC) Opportunity Center is a $15 million initiative designed to connect the Franklin neighborhood with Sacramento’s economic development efforts and improve public health in South Sacramento. This center will centralize job training, small business resources, and supportive services to help community members reach their full potential, become leaders, and build a resilient workforce. It will focus on creating job pathways, addressing poverty, and preparing individuals for emerging job sectors while fostering economic growth in disadvantaged communities.
Partnering with various organizations, the Opportunity Center will provide educational programs, workforce development, community health services, and a space for local gatherings and activities. This center aims to empower the community, attract investment, and support economic prosperity, making it a key resource for both personal development and neighborhood revitalization.
When completed
the center will include:
- Job training center
- Career center, including a computer lab
- Family Resource Center for parenting support . and classes.
- Space for LFCC administration
- Space for community partners
- Health and mental health clinic
- Training center for community health workers and clinicians.
- Additional partner space
Greening North Franklin
La Familia, Community Resource Project, Franklin Boulevard Business Association, Sacramento Tree Foundation, and United Latinos have partnered for Greening North Franklin to create a vibrant, sustainable community.
Our goals include revitalizing commercial areas, promoting clean transportation, enhancing energy efficiency, and mitigating urban heat. By celebrating diversity and heritage, we aim to build a climate-resilient neighborhood with improved job opportunities, housing, and services for all residents.

The Opportunity Center offers essential infrastructure for programs addressing the neighborhood’s social, economic, health, education, and environmental challenges, while ensuring operational capability during emergencies.
Maple Park - Green Infrastructure & Nature-Based Solutions
This project will transform the soccer field behind the Maple Neighborhood Center into a vibrant public mini-park. It will feature accent trees that create shaded pathways for walking and exercise, enhancing the park’s appeal and usability.
Water Retrofits - Clean Water Infrastructure to Reduce Pollution Exposure & Increase Overall System Resilience
This project aims to improve community water access by installing water fountains in the park, implementing water-saving measures at the Maple Neighborhood Center, and creating water infrastructure at the Opportunity Center, reducing water usage by 50%.
Indoor & Outdoor Air Quality - Community Health Improvements
This project will host workshops to educate participants on air quality monitoring, its health impacts, and resources for poor air quality days. It will also cover residential devices and online apps, provide home assessments, and offer specialized workshops for landscapers on safety and transitioning to electric equipment.
Energy Efficiency - Healthy, and Resilient Housing/Buildings
This project will improve energy efficiency in qualifying homes through assessments, workshops, and solar panel installations, within this area
Workforce Development - Occupations that Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Air Pollutants
This project will train community members in solar installation, weatherization, and appliance replacement, offering paid internships and stipends to support their development.
Our Partners
Community Resource Project our Statutory Partner will handle weatherization and solar installations to improve climate resilience in local homes and buildings. They will also offer training opportunities for community members in Green jobs like solar installation and weatherization.
The Sacramento Tree Foundation will provide trees for the Maple Park and other greening areas.
United Latinos will lead indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring and awareness and help businesses transition to cleaner equipment.
The Franklin Boulevard Business District will help small local enterprises avoid displacement and La Familia will work to resolve resident and community issues.
